Storm Katie

Due to storm Katie passing through North Devon I decided to tilt over the mast with the Hexbeam on it that was down a couple days. The storm passed though us during the night and headed east where it caused a lot of damage. Thankfully no damage from this storm and I woke to sunshine so took the camera into the meadow. Put the mast up to its vertical position. The raised beds are looking good broadbeans and over wintering are doing well. I also made a frame work out of roofing battens for the sweet peas just extra support for the weight of them, I use the same system for my runner beans a simple design but works well on the raised beds.

Bideford to Appledore via Coast Path

Have done this walk a few times and always very enjoyable a nice circular walk the weather was dry but a little cloudy but so good to be out in the fresh air.

Easter Walk in Bideford #2

After the walk around the town we came down back to the quay the yarn bombers had been in action the modern day graffiti but this is easily removed, they even did it on the statue of Kingsley the famous author of the water babies.

Easter Walk in Bideford #1

Easter weather was mixed with sun showers and winds. Did manage a lovely walk around Bideford town started off near Victoria park then it was a walk around heritage trail the architecture around the old part of the town is very interesting. Came across the old public cemetery closed in 1889 drove past it many times did not realise it was there!

Frog Spawn Only Pond

1st Version in it's raw state was going to tidy it up.
 Completed Pre-Formed
 Just another angle
Frog Spawn in

Over the last two years we have lost our frog spawn to the goldfish or the frost. We have some new frog spawn so decided to put into a separate pond purely for the frog or even toads. After putting in the swimming pond I had some butyl left over but it was in strips. Purchased the special glue from the pond shop did it all correctly left it for 3 days to cure and covered it at night. Fitted it in then filled the pond with water sadly the next day it was completely empty. Was gutted. Went to the pond shop told the manager the problem and he kindly said I have a cheap pre-formed pond you can have! Which was a nice gesture. Ros called into the local shop purchased a box of biscuits for the tea club always think kindness has to be rewarded. Got it home but need to dig out more soil & stone but now all in with a few stones around the edge the nice thing about the pre-formed pond is there is a slope built in to allow the frogs/toads to get out easy.

Totnes South Devon Railway #1

A belated Happy Healthy New Year to my blog followers. It has been a very wet and windy winter in the UK took the opportunity to have a house de-clutter with the 35 years mad collecting. So been very busy putting items on the online auction house.

Last October we had a wonderful sunny week in South Devon. We took the stream train from Totnes through Staverton and arriving at Buckfastleigh. Three of the coaches were from the 1930s there are only five in the country it was a wonderful trip so many photos taken. So there will be another posting about steam trains!
