Frog Spawn in

Over the last two years we have lost our frog spawn to the goldfish or the frost. We have some new frog spawn so decided to put into a separate pond purely for the frog or even toads. After putting in the swimming pond I had some butyl left over but it was in strips. Purchased the special glue from the pond shop did it all correctly left it for 3 days to cure and covered it at night. Fitted it in then filled the pond with water sadly the next day it was completely empty. Was gutted. Went to the pond shop told the manager the problem and he kindly said I have a cheap pre-formed pond you can have! Which was a nice gesture. Ros called into the local shop purchased a box of biscuits for the tea club always think kindness has to be rewarded. Got it home but need to dig out more soil & stone but now all in with a few stones around the edge the nice thing about the pre-formed pond is there is a slope built in to allow the frogs/toads to get out easy.

Totnes South Devon Railway #1

A belated Happy Healthy New Year to my blog followers. It has been a very wet and windy winter in the UK took the opportunity to have a house de-clutter with the 35 years mad collecting. So been very busy putting items on the online auction house.

Last October we had a wonderful sunny week in South Devon. We took the stream train from Totnes through Staverton and arriving at Buckfastleigh. Three of the coaches were from the 1930s there are only five in the country it was a wonderful trip so many photos taken. So there will be another posting about steam trains!

Berryhead Fort

A wonderful sunny morning was spent on Berryhead near Brixham ex Napoleonic fort the views were stunning on a clear day you can see across to Portland Bill in Dorset. There is a working lighthouse on the site and during the cold war 1958-1964  there was a cold war bunker which was run by Royal Observer Corps Volunteers  who monitored the threat of a nuclear explosion.

Brixham History

During our holiday we spent a whole day in Brixham and found out about the WW2 history and the half mile concrete breakwater built especially for the 2,500 American troops who were in training for the 4th June 1944 Utah beach landing. Whilst walking to the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater there was a young Cormorant who looked worn out and he or she was a posing for the camera.

Goodrington Steam Train

Had a fabulous week in Paignton could not have wished for better week sunshine all week it really was tee-shirt weather so good for October! this is a video I took from Goodrington I noticed a different walk from the beach going over the headland on the South West coastal path the views at the top were stunning.

Goodrington always evokes so many memories of my Mum & Dad & late Brother David as we all holiday in the area. Sadly the caravan park is now a housing estate. Dad would like to walk to the shops for his morning paper & I always remember a chemist with a sign outside it which read Don't Say Vinegar Say Sarsons again sadly those shops have disappeared to make way for a road widening & another new housing estate.
