Foot Ferry to Dartmouth

Part of the steam train package was a foot ferry from Kingswear to Dartmouth as we arrived at Kingswear it started to rain and got a little wet waiting for the ferry it also turned very cold only had a thin tee-shirt on but thankfully was carrying a coat. Once over the water to Dartmouth the rain become more persistent we noticed the local church and we always like a look in churches. Took shelter and had our packed lunch in the porch. After an hour the sun came out and it turned into a very enjoyable visit. We saw the only coal fired paddle steamer left in the world! that was hired by a package holiday firm for the trip up the river dart. On the way back over the water we sat at the back of the boat but did not realise how much noise the propeller made Beau was not happy and was very pleased to get off  and back on the train, because the train was not so busy on the journey back he had an enjoyable time looking out the window.

Steam Train from Paignton to Kingswear (Part 2)

Sorry posting wrong way around! these are photos from the trip back, the sun had come out  and the scenery just got better and better. Was a fabulous nostalgic ride on a bygone age of steam.

Steam Train from Paignton to Kingswear (Part 1)

In 2013 we had our first stay in Paignton stopping in a Travel Lodge for a couple of nights. Whilst there heard and saw the steam train leaving the station but due to lack of time was unable to journey on it. October 2014 our apartment was a short walk away from the station so a trip was planed on the Steam Train from Paignton to Kingswear then the foot ferry over to Dartmouth. The day started with the sun out but as the train got closer to Kingswear the sky went very black & the rain came down.

Torquay

After the trip to the Paignton cottage hospital even though it was getting late in the afternoon still had not done the food shop for the week we need provisions  as we were staying in an apartment in Paignton. Had planed a visit to Waitrose in Torquay it is a favorite supermarket voted top organic food seller many times. After the shop in Waitrose and driving back to Paignton noticed Torre Abbey which I blogged about earlier not only is the abbey a great place to visit but the grounds are very well manicured a joy to see & very colourful a lot of council run gardens in the UK are now not maintained like they use to be sadly. Top marks to Torquay a very clean town.

Torre Abbey (Part 1)

Just recently had a week holiday in Paignton known as the English Riviera. Before the holiday started I picked up a cold (Man Flu) I woke on Saturday morning to a mouthful of cold sores I was not happy. Sunday 5th October my face had got worse looked like I had scolding hot water poured on my face (not a pretty sight) did a beach walk with Beau people were staring and my face was hurting. Called into Boots & saw the pharmacist he took one look at me & said cream will be no good for you a prescription for tablets is required!  but I am on holiday was my reply! he said ring 111 they will help you! spoke to a really nice lady on the phone but felt so helpless in a town I did not know, especially when she asked the postcode of Boots! I did not know what street I was in! the lady said a doctor will be ringing you within two hours. Within an hour the mobile phone rang had a chat to the doctor who felt I needed to see a doctor face to face! so he gave me the postcode for Paignton cottage hospital! was told I had an infection on infection! ended up with two lots of tablets one lot 5 times a day other 3 times a day & thankfully they started working straight away. Got to say the NHS did me proud.

After the visit to the hospital and a lot of running around by me had to take Beau for a walk. Came across Torre Abbey a English Heritage building we have never visited, due to the lateness of the day and it being Sunday put it in the dairy to visit on the Thursday & we were not disappointed I have done 3 postings with just some photos of the day it was a very interesting abbey.

During the week we also visited National Trust properties Greenway Coleton Fishacre and Saltram on our way back home on the Saturday but that is another blog posting.
